You can use at-home beauty treatments and grooming tips to get rid of unwanted hair, especially facial hair during the pandemic.
5 Facial Hair Removal Tips -
1. Use sugar and lemon juice to make hot wax.
You can make your own hot wax by dissolving two tablespoons of granulated sugar in 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.
Place this in a small saucepan on low heat or microwave for 20-30 seconds until all the sugar dissolves and the wax reaches the right consistency.
Set is aside to cool for a while and use the wax while it is still very warm but not hot enough to hurt. Apply the wax to your upper lip and cheeks and press a strip of clean cloth over it so that the wax adheres to the hair.
Pull the strip off in a quick, smooth movement to remove the wax along with the hair if you do not want to use cloth strips, double the amount of sugar you use and add a teaspoon of honey.
This wax is a lot thicker and hardens once it cools so you will be able to apply it and then simply pull it off after a few seconds.
2. Mix corn starch, egg whites and powdered sugar to make cold wax
Not everyone is comfortable using hot wax, so if you are nervous about it, you can use a cold mixture instead. Add the whites from one egg into a mixing bowl along with half a tablespoon of corn starch and a tablespoon of sugar.
Whisk the mixture thoroughly until it forms a thick, smooth paste.
Apply a generous layer to your face in the same way that you would apply a regular face mask.
It will take about half an hour to dry completely, and you can then peel it off along with the unwanted hair.
3. Use a pumice stone once a week.
Pumice stone is a light volcanic rock that has a porous surface. It is generally used to exfoliate the skin, especially the thicker skin on the soles of our feet.
However, pumice stones are also excellent at getting rid of unwanted hair, including facial hair.
Wet your entire face and then gently rub the pumice against your face using gentle circular motions.
This will gently abrade your facial hair, and the changes will be visible within weeks. Pumice stone is abrasive, so do not use it more than once a week.
4. Apply talcum powder before waxing to prevent skin irritation
Waxing is an effective method of hair removal as the hair on your skin gets trapped in the thick wax and comes off along with the wax.
The upside of waxing is that the hair is pulled out from the root which leaves you with baby-smooth skin. Unfortunately, the downside is that the process can be quite painful.
Most of the pain from waxing comes from having the wax tug on your skin while peeling off the wax strips.
Apply a little talcum to your face before waxing as this will absorb any excess moisture and oil so that the wax can adhere to your hair but not to your skin.
5. Apply Aloe Vera Gel after hair removal to soothe skin inflammation
Do not use heavy skin lotions after waxing as this could lead to clogged pores. Aloe Vera gel is soothing and will help to reduce any inflammation or skin irritation that may occur after waxing.
Aloe Vera gel is also an excellent moisturiser and contains a variety of antioxidants and minerals that boost the healing process.
